Krill oil comes from small, shrimp-like crustaceans. Most krill oil is extracted from Antarctic krill, which live in the cold waters around Antarctica. Krill feed on algae and are in turn food for fish, whales, penguins, and seals.
Krill oil is an animal alternative to fish oil, but due to its unique chemical composition, is of higher quality. Krill oil, aside from its omega-3s, also contains high-quality phospholipids and the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin, which help the human body absorb it more easily. Many medical professionals recommend krill oil to their clients.
In addition to containing a high daily dose of omega 3 fatty acids (with a daily intake of 2 capsules), Testa Vegan Krill Oil DHA + EPA is also rich in phospholipids and astaxanthin. As a result, the oil is better absorbed by the body.
Phospholipids are important building blocks for our cell membranes. The cell membrane is the outer covering of every living cell in our body. All substances that enter or leave the cell must pass through the membrane. Maintaining all of our cell membranes in good condition is therefore essential for good health.
Astaxanthin is a carotenoid made by plankton, algae and certain plants, fungi and bacteria to protect themselves from the harmful effects of sunlight and oxygen; the highest concentration of astaxanthin is found in microalgae. Astaxanthin is a powerful and versatile antioxidant that can protect our cells from external damage even more effectively than vitamin E.
